Manage 3D viewer annotations

If you have activated the PRO version, you are able to add annotations to models, just like you can see on our homepage.

There are two variants:

  1. A centered control list where you can click through the annotations
  2. Points on the model where the annotation is visible

To add annotations to a 3D model, you should navigate to Visody -> Annotations -> New annotation.

You will see a screen like this:

You can add a list of annotation items. Each item contains the following options:

  • Title: Short description of the feature, displayed in bold text
  • Description: More detailed explanation for the feature
  • Animation name: Animation to play when viewing this annotation
  • Hotspot position: Position of the inline button on the model
  • Hotspot normal: Normal position of the inline button on the model
  • Autoplay: Whether or not to auto play the animation
  • Camera target: Updates the camera target values when viewing the annotation
  • Camera orbit: Updates the camera orbit values
  • Camera field of view: Updates the field of view values

Note: for centered control list, the fields “Hotspot position” and “Hotspot normal” are not required. For inline buttons, these fields are required to show the buttons in the correct positions.

Setting the desired camera values

You can optionally update the camera view when viewing a model annotation.

Use our 3D viewer workbench to get the desired camera values within a few clicks.

On the page, upload your 3D model

Next, pan and zoom to get the desired camera position.

Finally, hit the button ‘Get camera values’. Now you will see that the fields above will get populated.

Simply copy and paste the values into the annotation item fields.

Repeat the process for all of your annotations.

Obtaining the annotation hotspot positions

If you wish to show annotations on the model itself, you have to get the model position and normal values.

You can very easily obtain these values using our viewer workbench tool:

Simply upload the model and click the button ‘Add annotation’.

Next, click anywhere in the model. This will add the annotation to the model.

You will now see 2 fields: Position [number] and Normal [number].

Simply copy and paste the field values into the corresponding annotation item fields.

Repeat the process for all of your annotations.
